10 QUESTIONS FOR A PAYATAS KID

Payatas is a barangay located in the 2nd district of Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. Nearby barangays are Commonwealth, Batasan Hills and Bagong Silangan. Located in Payatas is the dump site that Garbage from Quezon City disposed in the area.

QUESTION 1: Ilang taon ka na? (How old are you?)

RICHARD: Pito po. (Seven.)

QUESTION 2: Papasok ka ba sa darating na Hunyo? (Will you go to school this coming June?)

RICHARD: Hindi muna daw po sabi ni nanay. Hindi po kasi nila kaya magpaaral ngayon. Si tatay po nawalan ng trabaho noong April. (My mother told me that I won’t go to school for now since my parents could not afford schooling. My father lost his job last April.)

QUESTION 3: Ano ang mga pangarap mo? (What are your dreams?)

RICHARD: Maging engineer po. Ung sa mga building. Para po mapatayo ko ng mas magandang bahay sila tay at nay. (I want to become an engineer, the one who is responsible for buildings. I want to build my parents a better house.)

QUESTION 4: Naranasan mo na bang magcelebrate ng birthday mo? (Have you experienced celebrating your birthday?)

RICHARD: Hindi pa po. Wala din po kasing panghanda ang mga magulang ko. (Not yet. My parents could not afford.)

QUESTION 5: Sino and idol mong artista? (Who is your celebrity idol?)

RICHARD: Si Richard Gutierrez po. (Richard Gutierrez.)

QUESTION 6: Ano ang masasabi mo sa mga taong mababa ang estado sa buhay? (What can you say about the people who are less fortunate?)

RICHARD: Hindi naman namin pinili ang maging mahirap at hindi naman din ito ginusto ng Diyos. Kaya hanggang sa aming makakaya, gagawa kami ng paraan para makaraos sa kahirapan. Okay na sa amin ang makakain ng tatlong beses sa isang araw. (We didn’t choose our state of life and God didn’t want this to happen. We just have to work hard if we want to achieve our dreams. I am happy if my family members and I are able to eat at least three times a day.)

QUESTION 7: Mahilig ka bang magbasa? (Do you like to read?)

RICHARD: Nagbabasa po ako ng mga comics sa lumang diyaryo. (I read comics from old newspapers and magazines.)

QUESTION 8: Saan po pangarap pumunta kapag lumaki ka na? (If you have already grown up, where do you want to go?)

RICHARD: Sa America po. Gusto ko po makaranas ng snow. (I want to go to America. I want to experience snow.)

QUESTION 9: Nagtratrabaho ka ba para matulungan ang mga magulang mo? (Do you work in order to help your parents?)

RICHARD: Sinusubukan ko pong maghanap ng puedeng ibenta sa junk shop. (I am searching for old bottles that I can sell at junk shops.)

QUESTION 10: Ano ang nagpapasaya sa’yo? (What makes you happy?)

RICHARD: Kapag nakapagaral na po ako. (If I am able to go to school.)
